The history of the Greek
Islands Restaurants begins in Sparta,
Greece where
two hard working twin brothers named George & Gus Sahamis
sold souvlakis straight off the spit to passersby.
Eager to make their way in the
world, they moved to Canada
in 1975 when they were in their teens. Immediately, they were working in
various restaurants starting from the bottom of the ladder (as the saying
goes), working their way up step by step while learning all about the industry.
In the late seventies, the brothers came to the Fraser Valley
and began managing several successful restaurants at a surprisingly young
age. It was not long before they decided the time was right to run their own
operation, which led to the purchase of Golphi’s
Steak, Seafood & Pizza house. (Ironically, the present location of Greek Islands I.)
For the next decade and a
half, with the support of their loving and patient wives, they owned &
operated several family-oriented steak, pasta & of course, Greek style
restaurants in the Abbotsford & Chilliwack
areas. The spring of 1996 is when the twins opened an establishment on Langdon Street
called THE GREEK ISLANDS RESTAURANT!
Due to its great success, two years later, George & Gus opened
GREEK ISLANDS II in Chilliwack. Thanks to our customers’ continuing support
and patronage, near the end of 2003 we opened our newest location in
Abbotsford - GREEK ISLANDS III.
The Greek Islands’
story is a product of one very important factor; which is family! We have family in the kitchen preparing our
own secret recipes from scratch, and family out front serving in the dining
room. Our goal is to provide great
food, efficient service and a warm, inviting atmosphere with every visit.
If you are thinking of a
special occasion; ask us about our authentic belly dancers. Come as you are for a family night out, a
romantic evening for two or any type of special event. See you soon and bring your appetite.
